KED Inspired UK

Kunskapsskolan has been supporting UK schools with its SAIL project in being KED Inspired. SAIL stands for Student Agency In Learning. It is a student centered, highly personalized approach to education pioneered by Kunskapsskolan in Sweden for over 15 years and now used across the world. SAIL also benefits from a partnership with the Whole Education group in the UK. More than 17 schools in the UK are committed to the SAIL approach and being part of the wider KED Network.

KED Inspired USA

The Great Oaks Foundation (GO) and Kunskapsskolan Education (KED) have established a partnership to provide the Swedish company’s innovative methodology, including its online curriculum, to the students who will be attending the Great Oaks Charter School in New York City. This school also occupies a facility that KED built specifically for the delivery of its student-centered program.
“Several years ago I visited one of Kunskapsskolan’s schools in London,” said Michael Thomas Duffy, the President of the Great Oaks Foundation, “and was deeply impressed by the student-centered program that I saw.”

The KED Buddies

The students and teachers who are using the KED Program are united to learn. As friends – buddies – students can help each other understand what they have to learn, find new strategies how to learn it, and see why they should learn it. Through the growing number of connections in the network, the interaction between schools is establishing itself as a central feature of the education we offer.

We call this interaction “KED Buddies”. The acclaimed teaching and learning methods of the KED Program help students progress through the curriculum of their home country, whilst on a global basis, students from different schools in different countries can join KED Buddies to work across borders. In this way, students gain valuable knowledge about subjects studied locally, whilst harpening their language and communication skills.

“We give our students those life skills that are hard to talk about, hard to capture, but essential for their future lives. These skills will also enable them to acquire better knowledge during the course of their studies.”

Christian Wetell, Deputy Head of Secondary Schools at Kunskapsskolan Sweden

Reaching out to somebody at another school, perhaps on the other side of the globe, is a new experience for many young learners. It helps them recognize their place in the world and see opportunities that might have been hidden before.

The Kunskapsskolan schools are among the leading schools of Sweden. The success of its KED Program can be judged not only by students’ performance being higher than the Swedish national average, but also by the growth of KED schools across international boundaries. Currently, over 100 KED schools and KED Inspired schools are operational across Sweden, UK, the Netherlands, India, USA and the Middle East. The schools follow the curriculum of each country and grade student performance according to national standards.
