Bajabulile Primary School

Bajabulile Primary School is found in Mamelodi on the north eastern outskirts of Pretoria in South Africa. Mamelodi is a former black township with a population of about one million people. There are small tin shacks stretching as far as the eye can see, crammed together with little space between them and with only very basic facilities but in addition you can see where the enterprise and ambition of families is starting to transform accommodation and facilities. Such is the spirit in Bajabulile.

The school has more than 1,300 students aged 3 to 13, with new students and families asking to join every week.

KED has contributed to building a science laboratory for Bajabulile with space and equipment. It has improved the students’ science and math education and raised their hope and ambition for their own future, according to Principal Chimeloane Queen.

The next step is to work with the teachers and students at Bajabulile to help them develop great science, math and technology education. The support includes guidance in how to develop teaching and learning based on the acclaimed KED methodology and regular contact with other schools in the KED Network.

The Kunskapsskolan schools are among the leading schools of Sweden. The success of its KED Program can be judged not only by students’ performance being higher than the Swedish national average, but also by the growth of KED schools across international boundaries. Currently, over 100 KED schools and KED Inspired schools are operational across Sweden, UK, the Netherlands, India, USA and the Middle East. The schools follow the curriculum of each country and grade student performance according to national standards.
